Ok, so I was thinking a bit.

For anyone with the iPhone DEV program, is it possible to digitally sign Cydia and Installer, then re-package them into an ipsw, and maybe exploit iTunes to not verify the MD5 hash on the package? (The Verifying Firmware part...) iTunes would be doing the work of the jailbreak, just like the iTunes firmware exploit recently done. I know, they've fixed that. But, in general, would this be possible?

No. Major flaw in this plan. The only way to get apps onto a 2G is iTunes. If it wasn't downloaded via the store it won't work.
Also .ipsw is a firmware update file. You mean .ipa.
Just be patient. It's coming. Eventually.

Have you ever re-called the shift-click function?

And no... i did not mean .ipa i meant ipsw. to restore the iPod with a custom firmware, you must use an ipsw. you probably thought that i wanted to use an app to jailbreak, which was not my plan. and also, if you do somehow get cydia and installer in, which i just realized, you will have to have a seperate app in order for the jailbreak.

    What about this.

We look into the 2.1.1 boot environment and make sure that apple hasn't left an unsigned portion of exploitable code. When we find that, we exploit it and patch out BootROM sig checks and then patch out the rest of the chain all the way up to the kernel. We then run Cydia and do our thing.

    That's just what I propose...

if you saw all the threads about redsnow you would know that the dev team might release a 2G jailbreak in a couple of days.

and also, even if you manage to load something officially through itunes you won't be able to get write access outside of userland.

Ok, I misunderstood. However it does not matter because this will still not work. Just wait for Chronic to do it. In the mean time you could maybe listen to your iPod.
