    Hi there everyone,

I bought a second hand first gen iPod touch online for my boyfriend, which I am proceeding to attempt to jailbreak.

There have been 8 hours of swearing, downloading, frustration and near-tears and I'm still no closer to jailbreaking the damn thing!

Every time I do a factory restore it is going back to software 2.0, so I assume that is the software it is running automatically. However, while it would make sense that'd be for the second gen (to me, anyway!) there are no speaker buttons and it does not have the smooth back.

I've tried PwnTool and QuickPwn, aswell as ZiPhone, and none of tem have worked. The closest I've got is to have the QuickPwn pineapple come up, then I got a scary error message and wham, back to a bricked iPod that needs ANOTHER restore to 2.0...

Anyway, I genuinely cannot see where I'm going wrong. Please can you help me? I'm pretty close to melting the damn thing at the moment!

I'm running OSX 10.4.11 and using iTunes 7.7, if that's any use.

    Hollie.

    There's your problem.

    You'll need iTunes 8.

    Use QuickPwn with firmware 2.2.

Create a custom firmware with it and you should be set.

You need to make sure it's in DFU mode though - Not just recovery mode.

Get back to me on it if you're still unhappy

    Oh right!

Well I was under the impression I shouldn't have iTunes 8 so I downgraded. However I'll upgrade that, download 2.2, and QuickPwn 2.2. Thing is when I had 2.2 on there before it said QuickPwn didn't support it!

    Lets hope this will work.

Will report back when everything's downloaded!

Thank you so much! Mr. New iPod boots with his little Pineapple.

You helped me loads, thanks a lot.

One last question though - apps in general - how do I get the IPAs on to the iPod? Do I do it via iTunes or go into the directories of the actual iPod?

    Thank you!

VIA SSH, but people on this forum don't take too kindly to cracked apps, so discuss it elsewhere.

What you'll do is download ipas from the iTunes Store, they'll be stored in a tab on the side of iTunes called "Applications" (obviously

) And then you just go to your iPod tab, go to the Applications section and choose the ones you wish to sync to your iPod.
