you have to pay for the phone, and then however much your monthly bill is, the pice of the phone depends on what contract you have, i really cant see apple wanting $500 as a deposit, unless thats payment for the phone

WTF!?! are you on apple.com or aple.com? (not a real site fyi, but it could be a scam site!)
  5. You failed their credit check...

If you don't have a good credit score then they make you pay a deposit so they don't lose money if you can't pay since you gave 300 dollars in advance.

Yea, all phone companies do a credit check. My first phone i had to pay a $400 security deposit. Good news is you get it back eventually. Some give it back after like 6 months of "good standing" aka you pay your bills in full on time. Others will give it back when the contract is up and you have payed all your bills.

Luckily i had a $0 security deposit on my 3G. Also keep in mind that once they do a credit check it actually lowers your credit score. So dont keep checking in different places. Otherwise the rate would go up. Thankfully $500 is the may deposit for the 3G according to AT&T. Unfortunately there is no way around it. You may want to get a parent with good financial history to buy it for you.

You know, if you can do it, it's not such a bad idea, paying about a year's worth of bills up front. I did it, and it's nice when the bill arrives every month and is in credit.

Yea having your bill in credit is nice. It's like getting a present every month.
