I recently installed the GM version of 4.0 and jailbreaked to enable multitasking and wallpapers, at first it seemed ok but now my battery seems to be running down fairly quickly on my iPod touch 2g

    Has anyone else noticed this?

Remember the bit when Steve Jobs said at the keynote something about:

Its difficult to do proper multitasking and preserve battery life....

Probabbly the reason why multitasking isnt enabled by defult.

Its not huge battery loss, but it does seem to be running down quicker on 4.0 GM

Memory leaks in certain daemons cause the battery to slowly decrease. Stay away from the 4.0 GM, its only a candidate. Its technically Beta 5.

Well I don't know a lot about jailbreaking, but I know people who have done it and have complained about battery problems. Obviously you guys here are much more experienced with jailbreaking, but I figured I'd throw that out there.

That, and it's my hope that iOS 4.0 standard release (non-jailbroken) will not have battery problems!

Matt is right. Just wait for the release. The GM isn't the final release! (Would be weird too if the final release doesn't have any wallpapers under settings xd )
And if you have an Ipod Touch 2G, Multitasking will drain it!
So just close your apps under the multitasking menu!

Edit: owh, and don't leave your wifi on with ios 4, cuz since this fw it will keep running in the background!

Oh I missed this in my first, paranoid post. Yeah I'd think this would be what's causing your problems, that's probably one reason why multitasking wasn't given to 2g owners.

Thanks all for your help. I quite like the idea of multitasking, but if its going to drain my battery im unsure whether to have it

Well, the way Apple multitasks is different.

    They will be 'paused.'
Apple's method uses pretty much no RAM.
So you won't kill your battery doing so.

I'm on a 3GS and haven't noticed a loss in battery life compared to 3.1.3 or lower. Then again, the device was kinda built for that, so... Just wait for 4.0's public release and try.
