Just wanted to share this info.
    I have 3g ipod touch 32 Gb.
Recently i had 4.0b1 installed on it.
I was amazingly surprised when my battery was going down from 100% to 55% during 1 hour of wifi surfing(+music).
I thought my battery is fcked up.
Then i have restored to 3.1.3 and my battery lost like 5% or less during the same time of surfing + music....
So i dont know what is wrong with 4.0... but it eats battery like crazy.

Its only beta, not supposed to be used for that stuff, but for developers to test their apps etc.

I had the exact same thing on Beta 1 about 4 times. Like, I would be using my 3GS, and lets assume its at 75%, when I check my phone again, say in 20 minutes, the battery would be down to about 24%. And I could be watching my battery die very quickly. The only things being multitasked are Phone, Messages, and Clock. It could be a memory leak causing this, but it's pretty serious because if my phone dies and I don't have a charger, then that would be really bad.

    Don't worry about it.

Anyone who should be using the beta (hint hint developers would know that this is very preliminary. There will be many problems, and battery is almost always one of them.

It'll be fixed for the final launch, though.

My battery wasn't too bad. I think that only happened to me once.

I'd have strange, sudden drains on my battery (no idea why), but it didn't happen very often. Overall, my battery wasn't particularly bad, it just wasn't as good as 3.1.3.

I got tired of the bugs in 4.0. Wanted some real multitasking. Downgraded back to 3.1.2 and haven't had any battery problems.

The errors in Tweetie are what really pissed me off though.
