    i couldn't find a 4.0 forum so i'm just gonna ask here..

    i have an iphone 3g on 4.0.1

if i restore, it'll restore to 4.0.1 right? because i dont want to restore then end up on 4.0.2 or anything..

    just need some clarification. thanks

Well... I don't think so. Doesn't Apple stop signing firmwares after a new update? If so... Do you have your SHSH blobs backed up? Cause then you can downgrade if you wind up on 4.0.2 - so it can't hurt to try.

When you restore, you restore and update, so if you restore you'll be on 4.0.2.

If you have SHSH for 4.0.1, then you can shift-click restore to 4.0.1. If you don't, you will go to 4.0.2, at least until 4.1 comes out. When 4.1 comes out, that's the firmware you will restore to.

Basically, iTunes will always restore you to the latest firmware unless otherwise instructed.

I dont think it does update to 4.0.2...

iTunes should prompt you if you want to upgrade, otherwise it'll just stick you to 4.0.1.

if you click restore it will put you on 4.0.2. otherwise you have to shift click/option click restore

That's weird it did it do that when I was on 4.1..?

It also prompts me that there's an upgrade available and of I wanted to install it...

3G doesn't have need SHSH to DFU restore. Get the FW from online since it's iOS4 it's free. DFU it down.

    Soft SHSH Checks.

I think you can bypass these with redsn0w(dev team site).
    Or use SHSH blobs.
