My service provider is SINGTEL in Singapore and i believe singtel uses 3.5G network which the 3GS is capable of handling. The 3GS comes with EDGE too that is for sure.

What i know is that EDGE serves the same purpose as 3G/HSPDA network right? Just that it is slower compared to 3G. So am i right to say that i could turn off EDGE and run solely on the 3G network? Because when i do that, i couldn't surf the net on 3G completely.

could anyone care to explain? i am confuse.

btw would the 3GS show that it is on a 3.5G network or it can only show "3G" on the carrier regardless whether it is on 3G or 3.5G network.

You iPhone changes to EDGE because it doesn't have 3G signal. It preferes WiFi over 3G and 3G over EDGE
