    I have a 16gig 3GS (Model # MB715) with a serial starting with 88011

I heard that the last two digits of the first 5 numbers of the serial say what week the phone was made. So mine is 11? Doesn't that mean I have the old bootrom? Because Snowbreeze is telling me that I have the new bootrom and that I need my 3.1.2 SHSH blobs.

    Just trying to clarify things.

you have the old bootrom since your model starts with MB. MC models like my ipod are new bootrom

No, I heard the MB/MC trick doesn't work with 3GSs though?

Edit: I suppose I got nothing to lose. I have my apps folder backed up, and I used AptBackup for Cydia...so let's see what happens. :]

Yeah, that says I have the new bootrom. But shouldn't the last digits of the first 5 numbers of the serial tell me too?

    ih8snow's tool says new bootrom
Serial should mean I have old bootrom

Same, only mine was a 87014 but it was a refurb. So it's possible they updated the bootrom

Well I've tried restoring to a custom 4.1 from Snowbreeze (Restore and DFU mode on both iTunes 9.0.2 and iTunes 10). Nothing worked. Kept getting error 1600 and 1604 after it timed out at "Preparing iPhone for restore"

I'm creating the custom IPSW now so I'll let you know how it goes.

If it does work, could you tell me the scenario in which you did this? I'm either missing some obvious, or just have a new bootrom xD

Mine does have the new bootrom. It finally displayed the iBoot version (Which was 392.3.2 or something like that). Sorry :/
