Im writing this to you because I was playing around with my test iPod touch 2G, running 3.1 firmware.

    * NOTE: This is only for users that do not want to wait for the iPhone Dev to speak on this. I wouldnt test this on an iPhone, because of the baseband and such.

    Requirements:

    - 3.0 IPSW specific to your device
    - A device (iPod touch 1G & 2G tested) running 3.1 firmware
    - A computer (Mac or PC tested) with redsn0w 0.8

    ** INSTRUCTIONS: **

    Step One:
Open redsn0w 0.8, and plug in your device

    Step Two:
Press Browse, and locate the 3.0 IPSW firmware file.

    Step Three:
Press Next, and select your options (Only install Cydia), continue pressing next until you get to the screen where it asks you to turn your device off, and press next.

From here, you can put your iPod in DFU Mode before pressing next to speed up the process.

    Step Four:
Press next again and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the jailbreaking process.

IT IS RECOMMENDED YOU WAIT FOR THE iPHONE DEV TO SPEAK ON THIS

    * Although I'm using this on my iPod touch 2G and everything seems to be working as it did before (WinterBoard, FontSwap, Terminal, etc.)

Didn't work for me. I have to restore now, iPod won't boot. I'll try again once I get a working 3.1 firmware.

Tested a second time. Again, resulted in non-booting, non-responsive iPod. Restoring now.

Not trying again until others do.

Don't fret, greenpois0n will be here before you know it
    http://www.ifans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=241553

    King Chronic says:
"To clear things up, greenpois0n, or pois0n for short, is our solution for jailbreaking 3.1 and 3.1.1 firmwares on all devices, including ipt3. It uses a new exploit that doesn't even require you putting the device in DFU mode, all you do is plug it in and everything is done automatically, much like purplera1n on 3.0. "
