It is possible, downgrade with coca colas guide. It only works for 3G 8GB

no you are confusing the "late 2g 8gb ipod mc model" with actual 3rd gen models which are the 32/64gb models which have hardware improvements

    why is it possible to
    3g(2g"new") with 2g ipsw
but not 2g with 3g ipsw?

Because the "2G new" is not compatible with 3G fw in the first place against popular believe, i did the test on my friends 8gb mc ipod and itunes said the 3g fw was incompatible

Besides even if it were the mc model is able to use 2G firmware because it shares the exact same hardware and the "old 2g"
