I have been trying to downgrade my ipod touch 3g (32 gig) from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2.
I know that apple stopped signing 3.1.2
I was previously jailbroken on 3.1.2 and I did click the red "make my life easier" button on cydia. I also saw the green message that said my device has that shsh thing.
I edited that host file so that apple checks with saurik's servers.
I entered dfu mode (yes, the real dfu mode, not restore mode)
I shift-clicked the restore button and browsed for the 3.1.2 file.

I'm still getting the "device not eligible for requested build" error.
    What am I doing wrong?

I've read you can do so using the 2G firmware.

Make sure you're doing it right. it should work unless you didnt back up your SHSH. ALso the trick with the 2G firmware only works if you have an 8GB 3rd Generation.

As far as I know you can't downgrade the 3rd gens unless they are the 8GB version. The 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models have the MC firmware. Were both in the same boat and I'm waiting for the 4.0 update to be released and the subsequent jailbreak.

Well, I got my 32gb 3rd gen to work. I would say download the firmware again and try it again.

    NO, NO, WRONG!
You can only do that with the 8Gb models since the hardware its the same as the 2G models

    NO,WRONG!!!
    16GB 3g models DON'T exist
You CAN downgrade the 32/64GB mc models IF you save your SHSH certificates in cydia

Check this thread tutorial, on how to downgrade the ipod 3g 32/64gb using the cydia certificates
