Solved: This happened because I did not update Cydia via Wifi.

The title pretty much says it all. I upgraded my 2g iPod Touch to 3.1.2 and jailbroke it with redsn0w 0.9.4. Then I installed a bunch of things using .debs (see attached image). However, when I restarted it, it went into safe mode immediately. It did this every time I tried to restart it, and said something along the lines of "appleSynopsisOTGCore text text text numbers" (Verbose Boot).

EDIT. Tried again this time only installing Winterboard and iFile. Still did it. Going to try (re-jailbreaking again) not installing MobileSubstrate....

EDIT2. Okay, yes. Not installing Mobile Substrate (kinda obviously) makes this go away... It's a pity that pretty much every perk of jailbreaking involves it...
Now, why the hell is it causing this. From what I have heard, everyone else has been fine.

I highly doubt that. Then again, I don't know too much about this, so you may be right...

usually restores fix the problems. mobile substrate shouldn't give you problems unless you have too many mobile substrate addons installed.

Actually, on the second try (which, yes, did, involve restoring and re-redsn0wing) I only installed one, Winterboard, and it still did it.

Not just Winterboard, I am fairly certain that it is Mobile Substrate itself causing this.

Mobile substrate would be the only thing that crashes your iPod if it's installed. I don't think anything besides Mobile Substrate modifies your device's configuration.

mobile substrate is the only thing that brings safe mode. without MoSu, there wouldnt be safe mode.

^^True, true. Safe mode disables mobile substrate, so your ipod looks like normal.
