You know how you can Shift/Click Restore to restore to an ipsw?
Can you do that with an update?
I'd really love to update to 3.1.3 but not re-sync my 412 apps, 713 videos, and 4200 songs.

BTW I'm on dial-up that's why I wanna manually update. I also have the 3.1.3 ipsw.

Your internet speed has nothing to do with how quickly the iPod is synced.
It will effect how long it takes to download the firmware, though.

I don't think everything has to be re-synced with 3.1.3, anyways.

Anywhoo, I'm pretty sure it'll work the same as any other firmware. Try.

if you just click update it does not erase any of your apps/songs/videos all it does is upgrade the firmware, trust me just took a friends ipod that was on manually manage music i didn't sync once and i upgraded to 3.1.3 and she didn't loose anything

    P.S Nice 2 consecutive posts

i know you can restore and update, but then you would have to resync everything, i would imagine shift and update would work for you, but im not 100% sure, worst thing that happens you have to restore from a backup and just let your ipod sit at your computer and sync all day

Just double click the ipsw file. It should open right up into iTunes.
Or, put the file into the dir that all the download firmware files go (Somewhere in the iTunes program files) and I think it should update without downloading.
