the 2.2.1 update has been fairly recent, so what they have set up jailbrwak wise is pretty new. is there a way to restore my ipod to say 2.2 and jailbreak that so i can use it like normal?

No. Its all about what generation you have, not the firmware version. Theres no difference between jailbreaking a 2nd generation with 2.2.1, and jailbreaking one with 2.2.

A untethered jailbreak has not been released yet, since no one has been able to do it.

I've already posted a link to a better tutorial then that. Your tutorial is basically just explaining how to run a program that does everything for you.

And this is... bad? Once again... not trying to sound like an ass... but a program that does everything for you IS the ultimate goal for everyone. Groups like the Dev-Team support this...

EDIT: BTW we have the same device. Both are jailbroken, we possibly used different methods. But is the end result not the same?
