    hi!
I just got an ipod touch for my birthday and am interested in seeing what I can do with this thing.

I download the 3.12 firmware downgrade for 3g so blackra1in would work (I assumed being a brand new ipod, it would be 3g) So it doesn't work, and I check out the model number and its actually a 2g ipod touch!

Is this a good or a bad thing?

Is the 2g better for 3rd party apps? What firmware should I install on it?

If it had the same capabilities in that department as a 3g, should I return it and get a new one?

    help greatly appreciated

You have a model like me its like half 3g and 2g. 3g in the name but 2g in the hardware. So i has half the capabilities and lower ram of the 32/64gb 3rd gen.

should I bring it back and demand I get a real 3g? Or is it better for jailbreaking purposes?

Apple does not do things by gens. What you have in your hands is a late 2009 product 2g specifically but they changed some things and yes its a 3g now, too bad.

The one I am talking about is the early 2010 model the april edition, this one the 32/64 gb is the TRUE 3g model.

If you go back to the store, all they say to you is that you have a 2009 model and it is final.

Do not expect for them to give you a 32 gb model if you give them your 8gb model. But if you want to try, do a fresh restore because they refuse if you do a jailbreak.
