If you drain your battery (like it is suggested to do once a month or so) and you have the tethered jailbreak it would seem that the 2G touch will be "bricked".

The usb ports won't charge it because it's not recognized and it can't be put into DFU mode because the battery's dead. (even trying to put it into DFU mode while it's plugged in.)

    Just a word of warning...

Use a wallcharger... Or plug it into a device with usb ports to charge (A printer or your XBOX)
And even though its not being recognized its still charging

Or when its plugged in run the boot helper...

And the discharge recharge thing is extinct now, this is not needed for lithium batteries. Maybe every 6 months to recalibrate the battery measurer but no other reason.

It is still brickable... Im certain if you modify un-fixable critical files it will be bricked but still, its still a hard bugger to brick haah

draining a Lithium Ion or other Lithium based batteries is actually unhealthy for the battery.
the "drain the battery" myth comes from older battery technologies.
Lithium based batteries also got preventive circuits that makes it impossible to drain it to 0%, because it's unhealthy.

No, cause the recovery part is an READ-ONLY ram-chip, which you can only modify by replacing it etc..

Owning a wallcharger is recommended for iPods and iPhones, especially if you travel and don't own a laptop.

I think you meant ROM because RAM is completely volatile, hence the tether

nope, "files" do not effect the ipods booting process in any way.
