As the title says; does the 2 gen touch have better sound than the 1 gen?

I've read many places that the sound is poor and many complaint over this.

Well, you're asking two different questions....

The First Gen iPod doesn't even have speakers.
The 2G has speakers, and that's where you probably have read the quality isn't that great.

BOTH have headphone jacks, obviously. I'd assume the sound would be the same through that.

The first touch 2G I had sounded terrible with headphones. I exchanged it for another one and it sounded much better. For some of us, it has been an issue. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the 1G. Sorry.

Assuming the 2g touch is in perfect working order, this will highly depend on your headphones.

i use ultimate ears super fi 5 pro and I can tell a big difference from my 1g iPod Photo.

more open stage and subtle details i couldn't hear with my older ipod.

    hope this helps.

Well... Seems like there are different stories here.

Milchkaffee: Do you know if there is any difference?

I don't mean the new speaker...
I mean the sound in the earphones.

I've read in some forums about improvement on the sound in the 2 gen.
Since I've read many places that the sound in the 1 gen was bad, I hoped this was improved.

Is the sound as terrible as some claims? Or is it just the hifi people who "hears" this?

it just depends on the quality of the mp3 and the headphones
