    Okay.
So, I was told that the 2.2 update is a must get.(I have firmware 1.1.5) I downloaded it with an itunes gift card, and everything went fine. I clicked the update to run it. It was preparing to restore the ipod, when suddenly an error message popped up. "Unknown Error"

Um.. You have to hold power+ home until screen goes blank, and then keep holding home only til iTunes recognizes it as DFU? it still doesnt.n Unless im doing something wrong.

dude that is for restore mode. for DFU:

get into recovery mode (connect to itunes)
hold home button for 5 seconds
hold power and home together for 10 seconds
release power button and continue to hold home for 30 seconds

if u cant get connect to itunes then sorry i cant help you.

I think its the other way around
turn on your ipod touch so you can actually see that this works
turn up your speakers and listen for that noise of when something is being connected.
while its on hold power and home together for 10 seconds until your screen goes black now dont let go of the home button keep holding it for 30 seconds or until you hear that little sound.
If that didnt help then watch this.
