2.1 firmware instal problem HELP!

    Ok so i decided im gonna update my jailbroken 2.0.2 first generation iphone to 2.1 today..

    first i updated itunes to itunes8.
    then i downloaded the software for 2.1
    then i try to install it and it says an unknown error has occured.
    now im stuck in restore mode and itunes wont even reconize that my iphone is connected to the computer now!!!!!

    how do i fix this man!?!?!?

    i have no idea.
    i cant connect to itunes to even try and get it up again.

    i cant go into dfu mode.
    i cant do anything.
    i cant power my phone off without letting go of the power button.
    it stays on the restore logo permanetly unless i hold down the power button without letting ago.

    i dont have a cell phone right now and im pissed off

    Love these threads.

    Plug in phone
    Turn off (screen is BLANK)
    Hold both buttons for exactly 10 seconds
    Release power button, and hold home until it pops up in recovery mode in iTunes

    ive tried that 15 times.
    not working im afraid.

    itunes wont reconize iphone

    well then take it to apple
    or try and get it recognized by another computer

    If it doesn't recognize it you are simply doing the steps for DFU wrong. It will always work. The DFU mode is located in a read only part so it's always there, regardless of wether you have any other part of the firmware or not.
