I contacted Apple this morning, as we are going to be giving away two ipod touches at a meeting. I was waiting to purchase them as I figured they would come with 2.0 firmware included. According to the person I spoke with at Apple, they will not be shipping ipod touches with the new 2.0 firmware, they will ship with 1.14 and 2.0 will have to be purchased for $9.95. I made it clear that I was talking about purchasing the ipods after firmware 2.0 had been released.

Based on this information, I would assume there will be no price drop on the ipod touch in the near future.

So people are not being ripped off (Even more) for being early adopters. However like you said, still paying. In my opinion firmware updates should be free. Like for the PSP and any other device for that matter.

    I dunno why,

but it sounds to me like they are making a new model for iPod touch's, maybe.
Maybe a new-look iPoT, with 2.0 in them.
They might not be shipping current iPoT with 2.0, because they may be working on a newer model.
    That's what I think, maybe.
