I'm going to go to the Apple store and yell at them for a bit and see what happens...

just did a google search and found this

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275#iTunes_current

its has some pretty good solutions most include making sure all the drivers on the computer are up to date (itunes, usb drivers) and even uninstalling itunes and reinstalling it theres also some other tips that might help you try those

phew mines restoring to 2.0 pwned now

first downgrade your itunes to 7.5
    then downgrade ipod to 1.1.4
then use pwnage/winpwn to pwn your ipod
    THEN enter recovery mode
    then shift+restore to 2.0 custom
if recovery doesnt work, try DFU

Dude I went through the same error game from downloading from other sources. I gave up and just bought the upgrade. $10 worth of no headaches. Think about it. After the 5th time I gave up and just bought it.

Any ways I went in and there was like only 15 people at 12:00 and only 2 at the Bar, so I walk over to make an apointment and find out I have to wait until 3:15...
    Stupid apple...
I have stuff to do so now I have to go back tomorrow at 10:00 for them to look at my iPod...
Just to add insult to injury I got a $50 iTunes card only to find out you can't use it for apps...
I am going to have a big long talk with them tomorrow... Oh Boy, one big long talk...
