Press and hold the home button and the power button until it goes off, then power it back on in about 5 seconds and it should be fine.

Hi, thanks, but that has'nt worked. The only way I can seem to turn it off and on is by connecting it to iTunes. Could it be the switch?

One of my friend's friend has an iPhone, and so I restored that.
Recently, I was informed that whenever the guy tried to switch the iphone off, it would boot straight open. When I finally got to it, I found that it wouldn't boot past the pineapple logo, would just turn, show the logo for a sec, then turn straight back off. Restore mode didn't seem to work either. This is a 2g iPhone by the way =P

Thats pretty much what mine does, keeps flashing the logo on and off and not doing a lot more.

dfu mode restore might help try that. Home+power 10 seconds and release power and keep holding home for 10 more seconds (use a clock if u want)

Thanks, will try that. Its a long shot, but I purchased a replacement sync cable, left original at hotel. Could this be something to do with it?

Any further thoughts please? Is the switch a repairable item?
