I just got a 16gb 1st gen from my friend. when i plugged it in to my
computer it wouldn't show up, just charges it. it also makes a beeping sound when it's plugged in. I remember I had this problem when i first got my original
ipod touch a year ago. i called up tech support and i vaguely remember him telling me to delete everything itunes/quicktime related. I've tried this 5 times now, and i must be missing something. could anyone help me out?

    Sorry for the long post.

Reinstall iTunes if you haven't already. Try plugging it into another computer to see if it is that one.

Ok, uninstall it. Reboot computer. Reinstall it, reboot computer. That might work.

iTunes is 8.2 I think, not sure. Just uninstall iTunes. Reboot. Go to Apple.com, install the iTunes they give you. Reboot. Then plug your device in. Just iTunes nothing else.
