iOS 3.1 1st Gen died after upgrading 3.1.1 then 3.1.2

    an error occures it says just "preparing iPod for restore" and after minute or two it says "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1601) or (1604) or a million other error codes.

    I think this is because Apple make upgrades incompatible with older ipods.

    It has happened on 3.1.1 and again with 3.1.2

    I am never upgrading my old ipod again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    the ONLY fix after this Apple logic bomb is to open your ipod and disconnect the mother board to force an internel reset.

    It sucks the big one, thanks Apple......... Not!

    well.. you can allways dfu+restore to 2.2.1 or 3.0

    No, the 16xx errors have nothing to do with old iPods

    My i touch did the same as mentioned told me to upgrade to the newer version and will not load again. The error codes 1604 and 1611 come up I performed most of the tasks on the help site for Apple but no luck. Any help new to this
