I did a search, and I didnt find what I was looking for. SPent the last hour trying to find info. Here is the situation

I have a 1G I touch, jailbroken with 2.1. I have apps from the Itunes store that won't update correctly because I don't have 3.0. Now my questions

1: If I update the Touch to 3.0 will I lose my Jailbreak?

    2: can I jailbreak a 3.0 with a 1g touch?

3: if I cannot, what should I do to make everything work correctly, and still keep it jailbroken?

1.Yes, everytime you update anything "jailbroken" will be deleted

    2. idk

    3. Personally I have a 1G touch and I won't pay $10 for an update unless I got bluetooth like 2G users. I would simply keep your 1G on 2.2.1 JB.

what should I use to jailbreak it once I upgrade to 3.0? And is there a way to upgrade without paying the 10.00 fee?

    I am on quickpwn and I don't see a 2.2.1 jailbreak. I only have 2.1.1

I agree with igeoffrey, redsnow is the easiest. I upgraded and then JB my 1st Gen 16GB yesterday with no problems. During the JB process, it will give you the option to install Cydia and ICY. In redsnOw, by default, only Cydia is selected. Leave it that way. I made the mistake to choose ICY as well and I had to reload the OS and JB again. iTunes put my AppStore apps back on automatically so i lost nothing....I had my books, pics, vids, music, Apps, etc. overall it was a VERY smooth process. Good luck!
