Yes, just curious but is that normal for battery?

And I did not know it was playing cause I fell asleep.

When fully charged, a healthy battery offers up to 30 hours of music playback. Your battery might not be in mint condition, you might have had WiFi on, or the battery may not have been 100% full when you started. So yes, it is normal.

I just noticed that the iPod keeps the WiFi on, despite being on standby/sleep, when the music synced to my iPod is played. Can you confirm?

I'm pretty sure the WiFi stays on until you manually turn it off or completely power off your device. That means it's still on and consuming battery even when in standby/sleep mode.

Yup, OS4 wifi is always on unless put in airplane mode or turned off.

Wow that's retarded. Why do we even have airplane mode when apparently all it does is turn off bluetooth? Or does it even do that? Whatever.

Anyways, I really haven't noticed any decrease in battery life since I got iOS 4.0, so the WiFi staying on must not have too much of an influence.

Well earlier yesterday I have airplane mode on while playing music, the battery stayed full for 1.2+ hours.

Hmm, maybe it's too much work displaying the "iPod" text, and it takes a load off the battery by switching to the orange airplane image.
