I do not know if anyone else has had this problem, but it can occur and has occurred to me already.

I've just spent one full hour and a half restoring my computer after installing the patch for enabling DFU on 10.5.6. This replaces two kext files that are associated with the USB. After installing the patch, my system worked fine for a good amount of time, don't remember how long exactly. After that, ALL USB ports stopped working!

If you have already installed, you will run into this problem, Leopard will find out that those files were tampered with and somehow disable them. This has already happened to me.

If your still going to attempt this, go at your own risk!

Yeah, I restored back to 10.5.5. Partly because of 3 reasons.
    1) The USB problem
    2) Boot up times were 5-10 seconds slower for me
    3) The drop down menu for battery settings on my MacBook have been removed on 10.5.6, therefore I had to go to system prefs to just change the battery settings. Very annoying.

Yeah ..... so I just found out that my roommate used my MBpro to jailbreak his iphone. Naturally he used this fix and f'd my laptop.

I have an appointment with the Mac store today. Is reinstalling Leopard the only fix? I was able to get the 2 files that this program messed with. Is there a way to install them? Granted I dont have a working keyboard or USB for my mouse

if you could access terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) you can possibly fix the USB

in termial, type each line and hit enter (first time it will ask you for the password to your account)
    Code:
    sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext
    sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext
TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK. i will check the commands when i get back from school
(this hinges on the fact that your keyboard works, sometimes mine doesn't for some reason)
