1.1.3 Symbolic link for more app space

I need to know how to create the symb link on 1.1.3 to move the application folder to the media partition before i started installing apps. I tried teh commands that used for the symb link on 1.1.2 but that gives me permission denied. thanks

    cd /
    mv Applications Applications_
    mkdir /private/var/Applications
    ln -s /private/var/Applications /Applications
    cd /Applications
    cp -R /Applications_/* .
    rm -r /Applications_

From one of the FAQ stickied on the front.

Does anyone know the Term-vt100 password? I never needed one before.

i was fine before, trying to create a symb link, i manged to break the ipod So im back again. Jbat 1.1.3.
now i'm not sure if these intructions work on 1.1.3, do they? can someone confirm???
at the mv command , previously i was getting a permission denied error...then at one point i found these instruction:

    mkdir /private/var/Applications

Create a symbolic link to the new directory containing all your apps where the original applications directory used to reside:

    ln -s /private/var/Applications /Applications

Move everything in /Applications to the newly created directory:

    mv /Applications/ /private/var/Applications

IF YOU GET AN ERROR TRY

    cp -R /Applications/* /private/var/Applications

i did that,i checked in winscp and the new application folder was there, however at this point i did not use the rm -rf /Applications/ command to remove the orignal applications folder.
i did a test and installed a game from installer. it still shoed in the original application folder and not under the var/application!!!! so i dont know whats going on? any help
