The mail app is taking forever to download messages and it seems like the IMAP is not working with gmail. Whenever I would try to download a message the wheel keeps on spinning and when I mark messagesbas read they stay unread. I have tried configuring with both the big gmail button and the other button with the instructions from google. This was working fine with 1.1.2....

    change chmod

    I had the same problem.
Set the permission of the application.app folder rekursiv to 777
That fixes the mail problem for me

Sorry, this is a n00b question but do you have to SSH into your iPod to do this? Will this brick your ipod if you screw it up? Is this reversiable through a complete restore? If possible I would like to find a solution through installer...

    Edit:

Find the mail folder which contains your e-mail address folder then Set it's properties to 777. Use the recursive option of WinSCP to make the change applicable to all files within the "Mail" folder.

Above: Please try to be a bit clearer in your answers.

I don't even know how to do this..... but first I would like to know if this can permanantly screw up your ipod OR if it is possible to restore by just pressing restore.

You can always restore your ipod with the firmware of your choice.
To have a ssh connection to your pod, you have to jailbreak it. Did you jailbreak your pod?
