SSH icon is not suposed to pop up.
That was only on 1.1.2 jailbreak.

you can install the services.app and that will alow you to turn your SSH on/off

I've already deleted the original install.app folder and I am also re-deleting the folder after it fails to try again, but still nothing.

i been having the same problems with Installer.. as one of you has already stated.. it is a problem with the space limit and installing applications.. so i tried to install the BOSSTOOL app but it wouldnt let me.. so i went to WINSCP , to the APP folder
and deleted all those folders of the applications that i tried to install several times but couldnt....
so now i waz able to install BOSS TOol... and will see if i can get it to work

UPDATE:i somehow managed to get BossTool 0.34a and it worked.. now i can install all of my old applications..

one question though? does the jailbreak take that much space? or is it a bug ?

Check the read/write permissions on your Applications folder, it's possible they got screwed up accidentally and that's why you can't install Installer.app to it anymore.

no, Apple dropped the OS partition down from 300 MB to 280 MB. so you're missing 20 MB of free space for installing apps. i guess this was their way of trying to make it so people couldn't install 3rd party apps on 1.1.3

Here's to weirdness... Mine is set to 755, as is my Installer.app :-S

I'd recommend you go ahead and try a 777 on the entire applications folder. It might leave you vulnerable to being hacked in the future, but quite frankly the likelihood of someone hunting down your specific iPod is nearly zilch... and a 777 permissions setting, recursive through the entire folder, might give you back functionality...

I had the same problem, then I deleted my installer.app and using cyberduck installed the 3.10b onto the phone and using terminal I entered the command
chmod 4755 /Applications/Installer.app/Installer. Then, installer worked for a while as I loaded a number of apps. Then, it stopped again and kept on crashing.

So, I deleted it again. And now I can't copy installer.app back on the Applications of iPHone using Cyberduck or Fugu. I keep on getting an error part way through the transfer. Any help.

Ok, my problem is when I set the permissions in WinScp on Installer.app and all the files within it to 4755 it automatically switches everything back to 0755.

Tryed with the terminal command, same result.

How can I set those permissions permanently?
