i just installed 1.1.2, and realized why everyone is saying it seems faster. i installed SysInfo and went to the hardware tab. it looks like apple overclocked the processor a bit in 1.1.2. it was at 400 MHz and 100 MHz bus in 1.1.1. after the upgrade to 1.1.2, it now reads 413 MHz and 103 MHz bus. too bad installer.app is freezing up and not letting me install some of the apps like Dock and Customize. it just freezes at the download bar and doesnt move at all no matter how long you leave it sit.

it's faster because Apple used different compiler options. They also optimised a lot of things in the new build.

Speed is about more than just hardware.

(By the way, the processor is Underclocked)

What's the difference between OVERclocking and UNDERclocking?

Underclock is setting the cpu to run at a slower clock, and overclocking it is making it run at a faster clock rate.

The wiki says that the touch has a 533Mhz samsung cpu inside. Even then, over 400mhz is pretty decent for a device this size, nokia has 400mhz processors inside their internet tablets and they handle flash integrated into webpages.

So did Apple underclock the iPod Touches to avoid overheating and preserving the handheld for longer?
