Apparently PSN uses Amazon's servers (just like Saurik does with Cydia) and their outage caused it to go down. It affected Reddit and Formspring too.

I wanted to play NHL 11 online today. :( Maybe some zombies if enough people wanted me to.

if you delete the launcher and the minecraft.jar currently there, then redownload it off of minecraft.net it should redownload for you. I ran into that problem too. I think I just scrapped the whole folder except for my 'saves' and 'texture packs'.
