      Don't listen to people who post inaccurate stuff without being sure of what they are talking about.You can absolutely restore form 1.x.x to 3.1.3, nothing wrong can happen

      Just download iPod 1G 3.1.3 firmware and restore your ipod with iTunes (shift+ click on restore and then browse to the firmware file you downloaded)

      and then jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.4

      Just make sure you have iTunes 9.1 or later, if anything goes wrong you can ALWAYS put your iPod in DFU mode and restore
