I am downloading the trial for Lightroom, but I was unaware of the Aperture trial. If that is true, then I will absolutely do that. Thanks for your help. I also had some questions about upgrading my Mac. Do you want to hop on IRC sometime?

Doesn't Lightroom have a trial? The thing is that Lightroom is $10 more and I have to send in a bunch of stuff to get the education discount, but Aperture is cheaper and through MAS. However, if Lightroom is better, then I don't have a problem with the extra $10 and such.
