Have you read the tutorial?
I guess I'll just put it down for you:

1. Repartition.
2. Make third partition.
3. Fill up third partition with raw disk.
4. Mount it on /mnt.
5. Use symlink hack to link /sbin to /mysbin
########stuff in between; in a hurry#########
6. Boot into partition.
7. Restore partition to <firmware>
8. Mount partitions once again after restore.

Satisfied? :)

I'm not planning on going through the iOS kernelcache to see the errors within. That's Apple's job. I really don't see how it's much of a problem.

The reason it was dicontinued for a very short amount of time is because I was discouraged by the slow progress on the iPod touch 4G. Not because of it not working.
