Patch iOS SSL bug without updating

iOS7-120

If you’re jailbroken and don’t want to update to iOS 7.0.6 — even though it can be jailbroken — Ryan Petrich has you covered. The enterprising developer has released SSLPatch, a tweak that can be found on his repo (http://rpetri.ch/repo/). The tweak is completely free, and everyone that hasn’t updated should grab it. Why? Because that SSL bug is horrible.

Today seems to be Ryan Petrich day on Cydia as he apparently pushed Luna, FullScroll, and Grabby to BigBoss for widespread availability. We told you about Luna on Friday and you heard about Grabby earlier this month, but what about FullScroll? What does this mystical tweak do? (more…)

Cydia: How to Pick Music From Your Lockscreen with PowerMusic MiniPlayer

powermusicminiplayerbanner

You may remember me covering a tweak called Pluck a few weeks ago, which lets you display a song picker on the iOS lockscreen for quick music-picking. Pluck isn’t the only option when it comes to having quick access to your music, though, with one tweak in particular exhaustively named PowerMusic MiniPlayer being a prime contender. (more…)

Upcoming Jailbreak Tweak Lets You Drag Background to Reveal Toggles

The release of the iOS 6 jailbreak evasi0n has allowed more jailbreak developers to come out of the woodwork. Most of the best jailbreak tweaks are shared between ten or so names, but the reintroduction of jailbreaking in 2013 has brought out more creative tweak makers. With this phenomenon has come a plethora of new tweak ideas and otherwise interesting modifications to iOS.

One of these aforementioned creative beings is YouTube user Ryan Bushe. The video above demonstrates an unnamed tweak idea he had that he calls “Slide BG to Settings.” This is of course not a suitable name for Cydia, but that description does a good job of telling us what it does. Watch the video above to see the concept in action, but let us know on the comments if this an idea you find useful.

Pluck is a Very Useful Lockscreen Song Picker

Photo Apr 07, 3 34 48 PM

Playing music while driving or doing other activities needs to be easier. If you don’t already have a playlist cued up, you have to unlock your device, open Music.app, and navigate to your song. In some situations such as driving, it’s probably best to shorten this task to the smallest number of steps possible–for safety’s sake. Pluck is available right now and let’s you pick your song in just one step: tapping the icon the tweak adds to your lock screen. (more…)

SubtleLock Tweak Brings a Minimalistic Lockscreen

url

Have you ever felt like the lock screen functions take up a little more space than it should? Have you ever wished you had a little more room for your beautiful backgrounds? If so, SubtleLock is here to save the day. This tweak thins out the typical iOS lockscreen, albeit at the same time making it look a little less polished.

What’s great, though, is that it retains compatibility with many other themes and tweaks you may have on your lock screen. I didn’t get the chance to test the likes of Intelliscreen X or Lock Info, but my Winterboard-altered slider stayed themed when using this tweak. SubtleLock is available for $1 on the Cydia store. Parallax: Android-Esque Wallpapers for iOS

parallaxiphone5

Last week we took a look at LivePapers, a tweak aiming to let you use a more dynamic and interesting backgrounds on your iOS device. Today’s tweak (which we also look at three years ago) has a similar goal, but it provides it in a slightly different way.

Parallax has been around a while, and it is now compatible with iOS 6.1+ and the latest devices. The functionality that Parallax feels undoubtedly similar, as an identical concept has been possible natively on various Android devices for a long time. Do you like having a background that scrolls as you flip your pages of apps? This tweak brings that concept to iOS. (more…)

SelectiveReading Lets You Specify Which Contacts Get Read Receipts

selectivereading3

Sending read receipts can be pretty useful for messaging your best friends. If you’re talking to someone and you see that they haven’t yet read your message, you’ll know they aren’t ignoring you. Likewise, if you see that they did in fact read your message and they don’t reply, you’ll know they’re busy and that they’re ignoring you on purpose. Read receipts have definitely improved my text conversations with my friends. (more…)

LivePapers Brings Animated Wallpapers to iOS… Again

There have been many animated wallpaper tweaks come across Cydia in the last few years, but to be honest, our iOS devices couldn’t really handle them thanks to less than powerful hardware. LivePapers brings animated wallpapers to our powerful iPhones and iPads the right way, and this time, most of us don’t have to worry about processing power or RAM. It just works. (more…)
