Threes discussion and strategy thread

threes

My latest App Store obsession is Threes, and I’ve created a thread to discuss strategy and tips for the game. The game itself is currently available for $1.99 on the App Store for both the iPhone and the iPad. I highly recommend it, and if you already have it, feel free to post your high score and any tips you may have!

Quick Tip: iOS Has a Built-In Extension Dialer

2v6ob

Do you commonly find yourself calling your workplace or school? If so, you’ve probably seen the frustration of having to use extensions to reach your call’s destination. Having to enter a certain extension every time you call can be a nuisance.

Well, apparently Apple thought of that when building Phone.app. This little known tip shows you how to insert commonly dialed extensions directly into contact information, allowing you to press just one button when prompted.

  1. Open up the contact for which you want to add an extension.
  2. Press “edit” on the top right of the screen.
  3. Tap the contact’s phone number (the one which needs an extension)
  4. Add a semicolon “;” to the number, followed by the extension.

After you have your extension added, the iPhone will show a new button next to the “end” that will allow you to easily dial said extension when necessary.

How to fix MMS and Facetime issues post-jailbreak

Click for Full Sized image!

So MMS and Facetime may have broken for you after the jailbreak (it did for me) – although I’m confident that a fix is on the way, there’s a quicker way for the impatient among you. (Thanks to @_Appman_)

Go into Cydia, go to Manage > Sources > Edit > Add and type: http://iphonedelivery.advinux.fr/cydia

Next, download “iPhone Delivery” package from that source. Respring when prompted and check your Messages app. MMS should be back. Next, go to Settings > Phone and turn Facetime to “ON” and wait for activation.

I now have MMS and Facetime back on my jailbroken iPhone 4. Hope it works for you. Thanks again to @_AppMan_ for the tip.

EDIT: Actually there’s an automatic update now in place thanks to Saurik and Comex. Simply open up Cydia after you’ve jailbroken and install the mandatory update! Done. Easy..

Converting videos for your iPad and iPhone 4

Big, beautiful screens with high resolution – great for watching videos… but how do you get the “optimum” settings for your video files to play nicely with your iDevice?

Firstly, head over to http://handbrake.fr to download a copy of Handbrake for your computer (it’s universal binary) then, watch this video below which I’ve made to tell you about the presets I’ve written for the programme, which allow you to convert in HD, half-HD and SD:

You can also download the files you need here:

Mac/Windows presets

Just Windows: (read the video description for more info on what to do!)

To import the presets (which I forget to explain in the video…) go to “Presets” on the menu bar, and then “Import…”
