PwnageTool, Redsn0w, Cinject, and Ultrasn0w Updated with iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Support

iPhone Dev-Team Updates PwnageTool, Redsn0w, Cinject, and Ultrasn0w with iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Support

The iPhone Dev-Team writes:

With only a week to go before WWDC 2012 and the surprises Apple will announce there, today seems like a good time to release updates to our suite of free software to include the [iOS 5.1.1] rocky-racoon jailbreak and untether developed by @pod2g and @planetbeing!  Today’s updates are:

  • PwnageTool 5.1.1
  • redsn0w 0.9.12b1
  • cinject 0.5.4 (version 0.5.3 also had rocky-racoon but this includes some updates)
  • ultrasn0w 1.2.7 (5.1.1 compatibility only – no new baseband support)

If you have already applied the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak to your device using Absinthe 2.0 or the Rocky Racoon package from Cydia, then you do not need to reinstall it using these tools. Here are direct download links: PwnageTool 5.1.1 (OS X), redsn0w 0.9.12b1 (OS X), redsn0w 0.9.12b1 (Windows — run in Administrator Mode), cinject 0.5.4 (OS X & Windows). Ultrasn0w 1.2.7 can be downloaded from Cydia.

Untethered Jailbreak For iOS 4.3.4 is Unlikely

Apple’s recent iOS 4.3.4 update not only patches the PDF security vulnerability, which fuels the JailbreakMe 3.0 tool, but it also prevents “incomplete codesigning attacks” from being made. By detecting and blocking these attacks, Apple has effectively patched all untethered jailbreak exploits that have been used since as far back as iOS 4.1. As i0n1c explains on Twitter, this means that tools that use the current untethered jailbreak exploit, like PwnageTool and redsn0w, cannot be used to jailbreak iOS 4.3.4. (more…)

iOS 4.3.4 Jailbroken with PwnageTool

The guys over at Redmond Pie have rolled out a 4.3.4-compatible PwnageTool bundle to jailbreak the iPhone, iPod Touch, and original iPad. Updating to 4.3.4 isn’t a very good idea at this point, as its only purpose is to prevent users from jailbreaking. But, if you unwittingly updated your device to the latest firmware, you’ll still be able to have a semi-tethered jailbreak. PwnageTool is also able to preserve the iPhone’s baseband, though there is no unlock for the 4.3.4 baseband if you have already updated.

It is advised to stick with 4.3.3 until a fully untethered jailbreak is released, but we probably won’t see another until iOS 5. Check out the full guide at the link below.

Untethered Jailbreak Released for Apple TV 2 Running iOS 4.2.2

Apple released iOS 4.2.2 (err, 4.3?) for the Apple TV 2 earlier today, and i0n1c was quickly able to port his 4.3.1 untether—which refuses to die—to support it. An updated PwnageTool bundle is available to jailbreak the device, along with a fresh release of sn0wbreeze. The Apple TV update only contains minor changes, so if you don’t feel like fooling around with IPSWs, you’re not missing out on much.

Update #2: Apple released a minor update to iOS 4.3 for AppleTV2G (the IPSW name still says 4.3, but the build version changed from 8F202 to 8F305). @i0n1c was once again able to quickly port his original 4.3.1 untether (the exploit that wouldn’t die!) to this version.

If you do feel like updating to the “new” 4.3 (although there doesn’t seem to be any good reason to), you’ll need to drop this bundle into the correct folder in PwnageTool.app. If you don’t know how to do that, there are lots of tutorials on the web, and we’d be glad to help in the comments below.

Thanks once again, @i0n1c!

iOS 4.3.3 Untethered Jailbreak Released

Thanks to increasingly lenient (or oblivious) Apple engineers, who have yet to patch i0n1c’s 4.3.1 exploit, the Dev-Team has released an untethered jailbreak for the recently released iOS 4.3.3.

Ultrasn0w has been updated to version 1.2.3 (no new baseband support), but unlockers will need to roll a custom IPSW for their iPhone to prevent the baseband from updating.

PwnageTool Official BitTorrent Release

Today’s PwnageTool and redsn0w incorporate @i0n1c’s port to 4.3.3 (it’s ironic that such a long-lasting untether doesn’t even have an official name!).  It also of course uses geohot’s limera1n bootrom exploit to inject the jailbreak. The 4.3.3 untether works on all devices that actually support 4.3.3 except for the iPad2:

  • iPhone3GS
  • iPhone4 (GSM)
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPod touch 4G
  • iPad1
  • AppleTV2G (v4.3 8F202)

PwnageTool 4.3.2 Released

The Dev-Team has released an updated version of PwnageTool which uses i0n1c’s untethered jailbreak, along with an updated ultrasn0w for 4.3.2. PwnageTool 4.3.2 works on any device except for the iPad 2. Windows users looking to roll their own ipsw can use sn0wbreeze 2.6.

Note that there’s a corresponding update to ultrasn0w, which has been bumped up to v1.2.2 to get along with iOS 4.3.2 (the ultrasn0w update does not include any new baseband support!). Please reboot your iPhone using the normal “slide to power off” swipe after installing ultrasn0w 1.2.2.

Remember, back up your SHSH blobs before you upgrade!

iOS 4.3.2 Untethered Jailbreak Released

Thanks to Apple for overlooking i0n1c’s vulnerability in 4.3.1, redsn0w has been updated to support the recent release of iOS 4.3.2. Unfortunately, the iPad 2 is still stuck in the stocks, and the iPhone 4 jailbreak is currently awaiting a pending update which should be rolled out shortly by the Dev-Team.

Feel free to update both your iDevice (and iTunes) to the latest versions, but as always, back up your SHSH blobs!

Only a few weeks after the 4.3.1 untether created by @i0n1c was released, Apple pushed out firmware 4.3.2. Thankfully, it appears Apple didn’t have a chance to fix the hole used by @i0n1c’s untether, so he ported his code over to 4.3.2’s kernel. Today’s redsn0w has been updated to include it.

The 4.3.2 untether works on all devices that actually support 4.3.2 except for the iPad2:

iPhone3GS
iPhone4 (GSM) iPhone4 users please wait for a pending fix
iPod touch 3G
iPod touch 4G
iPad1

redsn0w 0.9.6rc13:

As always, ultrasn0w unlockers should stay away from redsn0w and only update their firmware through a custom IPSW. We’ll release a new version of PwnageTool sometime this week.

Note that many people are currently having problems updating to 4.3.2 through saurik’s server. You’ll need to remove the gs.apple.com entry in your hosts file in order to restore directly to Apple’s servers.

Ultrasn0w Updated with iOS 4.3.1 Support

The Dev-Team has updated ultrasn0w to version 1.2.1, which brings unlocking support to iOS 4.3.1. Please note that this is not a new ultrasn0w, but rather an update to bring 4.3.1 compatibility to existing unlockers. Users will need to use either PwnageTool or sn0wbreeze to cook an IPSW with a preserved baseband (01.59.00, 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04 or 06.15.00). This update also fixes the signal bar issue for users who are on older basebands.

Ultrasn0w can be found on Cydia under the http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com repository.

We’ve pushed out the 4.3.1 compatibility fix for ultrasn0w in Cydia — it’s now at version 1.2.1. If you’re not already at 4.3.1 and you need the unlock, please be sure you understand how to get to 4.3.1 using a custom IPSW that doesn’t update your baseband. There are lots of guides for this (like at iClarified.com).

This isn’t a new unlock! It’s to allow those who are already using ultrasn0w to use FW 4.3.1. It also fixes the signal bar issue for those who aren’t using the unlock but retain an older baseband intentionally.

Redsn0w and PwnageTool Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 Released

Download now! Redsn0w, PwnageTool

The new redsn0w works with all 4.3.1 devices excluding the iPad 2. Remember that it is likely that the download will be slow, or that it may knock out the server due to the high demand that these programs create. If it doesn’t work out the first time, try again or wait for a mirror. Be cautious of any unofficial mirrors that may popup.

Users who have already jailbroken 4.3.1 with sn0wbreeze can run the updated redsn0w over it without a restore.

WARNING WARNING — ultrasn0w users don’t update yet! We need to first release an update to ultrasn0w that fixes some incompatibilities when FW 4.3.1 is used on the older basebands supported by ultrasn0w. And remember once we do fix ultrasn0w for 4.3.1 (we’ll announce it here and on twitter), you must only get there via a custom IPSW from PwnageTool, Sn0wbreeze or xpwn! Don’t ever try to restore or update to a stock IPSW, or you’ll lose the unlock!

Let us know how it goes in the comments!
