Act Fast: Apple is Mysteriously Allowing iOS 6.0.x Downgrades

ios-6-jailbreakFor those of you that have been vying to downgrade to iOS 6.0.x, but missed the signing window, now is your golden opportunity. For unknown reasons, and potentially related to the iPhone activation server activation issues, Apple has begun signing older versions of iOS 6.

So if you’ve been wanting to get your jailbreak back or you want to downgrade for whatever purpose, act fast. Download links for all iOS 6 versions for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch are available here. Will you downgrade and jailbreak iOS 6 again?

EDIT: We’re hearing that downgrades for certain devices are already not working again. Keep trying, but the gold rush might be over.

Downgrade iPod touch 3G 3.1.3 using 2G firmware?

Member Coca Cola reports success downgrading a 3G iPod Touch 8GB from the new 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 without SHSH signature signing.  He apparently has achieved this using the 2G iPod touch 3.1.2 firmware and this somehow allowed a downgrade.  He also reports success jailbreaking this downgraded device using PwnageTool.  A great find if it’s true and there’s discussion of its feasibility and other reports of success in the thread.

As we all know, the new 3G iPod touch 8GB (MC serial) is exactly the same as the old 2G (MB serial) except that the 3G uses the new bootrom that effects signature signing to retrieve blobs for firmware activation.

We’d love to hear more on this from any iPod touch 3g 8GB owners who’ve tried this. If you do then please post up details of your success in the comments.

Edit/ by all accounts this method for downgrading iPod touch 8GB with MC serial does indeed work but we still aren’t quite sure why!

Backup 3GS ECID On Cydia To Allow Future Downgrade

Cydia’s developer Saurik has put up a lengthy but excellent blog post on Apple’s authoritarian and controlling stance over their hardware, their effort to deadlock the iPhone 3GS from being downgraded and Saurik’s service on Cydia that backs up your 3GS ECID to allow future f/w downgrades.  Essential reading if you own a 3GS.

Many 3GS users on are now painfully aware that Apple has stopped signing 3.0 requests and, as a result, they can’t downgrade or even restore to OS3.0.  A lucky 50,000 owners managed to save their device’s ECID (unique chip IDs) through Cydia in the brief window that this service was offered before the OS3.1 launch.

However, for those outside the lucky few, all is not lost.  A hole in 3.1 has been found and an exploit is being worked on.  So the chances for  a 3.1 jailbreak are good.   Saurik has now reopened his ECID backup facility on Cydia for 3.1 users  to ensure they will be able to downgrade back to 3.1 in the future.
