Patch iOS SSL bug without updating

iOS7-120

If you’re jailbroken and don’t want to update to iOS 7.0.6 — even though it can be jailbroken — Ryan Petrich has you covered. The enterprising developer has released SSLPatch, a tweak that can be found on his repo (http://rpetri.ch/repo/). The tweak is completely free, and everyone that hasn’t updated should grab it. Why? Because that SSL bug is horrible.

Ryan Petrich Reveals Hidden Topography Setting In Google Maps

Cydia IconAs we all know, the native Google Maps application was recently released following its departure in the iOS 6 update. Today, iDownloadBlog is reporting that the app includes a hidden feature — topography.

Early feedback shows the app may be superior to the Android version, even though both versions of the app offer the same basic set of features.  While the Android version offers more features such as Wikipedia  integration and other Google services, the iOS version offers a more clean and intuitive experience.

Both may be useful apps, but the more recent iOS version seems to have one feature that has yet to be publicly announced. (more…)

Cydia Tweak: ‘Download To Newsstand’ Organizes Your App Downloads

A feature that Apple has neglected to pay much attention to on the iOS platform is the concept of app download management, something that Android has always had since its earliest versions. On an Android smartphone, users can simply download an app and it will notify them within the notification system upon downloading.

On iPhone, the user goes to the App Store, downloads an app and it automatically goes to the device’s home screen where the app resumes its download — no notification of any kind. However, developer Greensnow — as part of his Greensnow Xmas Challenge — has provided a simple tweak named Download To Newsstand that manages to put together a simple location where app downloads go. Newsstand.

Download to Newsstand places your app downloads into Newsstand.

For this purpose, Download To Newsstand is an “ideal way of managing your apps” where instead of the app being in the SpringBoard, it will “download and install in the Newsstand folder.” In addition to automatically having applications being in the Newsstand folder, it gives the application a nice visual flat icon that makes it seem as if it was an actual magazine or newspaper that belongs in that folder. Once the application manages to finish downloading and installing, the app will then be transferred out of Newsstand and into your home screen, where you can then sort the app however you prefer.

While not perfect, this tweak does manage to provide a great concept of adding a visual notification to your device of all your apps downloading.  You can find Download To Newsstand on Cydia for free on the ModMyi repo.
