BatteryDoctor Pro: The Ultimate NCSettings Replacement

Photo Mar 01, 11 22 10 PM Photo Mar 01, 11 18 20 PM

While just hours ago it was reported that the development of popular jailbreak tweak NCSettings has been discontinued, there is fortunately an even better alternative already available known as BatteryDoctor Pro by Kingsoft Security. To search for the package on Cydia, however, you must type in BatteryDoctorPro. You will see Chinese characters at the beginning of the tweak name.

Every once in a while, a jailbreak tweak comes along that simply trumps others of its kind. BatteryDoctor Pro fits that criteria, as both an elegantly designed and highly functional iOS extension. BatteryDoctor Pro offers multipurpose functionality, both monitoring and optimizing the battery life of your iPhone or iPod touch and, much like SBSettings or NCSettings, adding system toggles to Notification Center.  (more…)

Reminder: iOS 6 Jailbreak Window is Closing Fast

iOS-6-logo-official (1)Now that it has been confirmed that iOS 6.1.3 will indeed patch the evasi0n untethered jailbreak, it is now important to note that the opportunity to jailbreak iOS 6 will soon be gone. Once Apple seeds iOS 6.1.3 to the public, it will stop signing all previous firmware versions.

What this means is if you’re not already updated to iOS 6.1.2, the last version that will support the jailbreak, you will want to do so as soon as possible. When iOS 6.1.3 hits, you will lose the ability to update to or restore to any older software version. Time is ticking.

iOS 6.1.3 Will Patch Untethered Jailbreak

Evasi0n Jailbreak iOS 6David Wang, better known as planetbeing in the jailbreaking community, has confirmed to Forbes writer Andy Greenberg that Apple has more than likely patched the evasi0n untethered jailbreak in the forthcoming iOS 6.1.3 software update. Wang claims that Apple has patched at least one exploit that evasi0n uses, rendering the jailbreak defunct.  (more…)

TypeStatus: Messages Indicator in Status Bar

TypeStatus 1 TypeStatus 2

TypeStatus is a new minimalistic jailbreak tweak that displays a message indicator in the status bar when someone is actively responding to one of your iMessage conversations. With this tweak, you will no longer have to navigate to the Messages app and look for a bubble with an ellipse — three dots — within, as that symbol will show up in your status bar across iOS.

This simple tweak was inspired by jailbreak guru Jeff Benjamin and brought to life by developer Hashbang Productions. TypeStatus is a free download on Cydia under the BigBoss repository, and requires a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 5 or iOS 6. Due to the simple nature of this tweak, there are no options or settings to configure once it has been installed.

Do you think that TypeStatus is worth installing?

Quick Tip: How to Bypass Your Broken Home Button Using AssistiveTouch

AssistiveTouch 1 AssistiveTouch 2

A broken or unresponsive home button on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch can be extremely frustrating, especially if the device is no longer within its warranty coverage period. But, what most people fail to realize, is that there is a native iOS solution to this problem that does not require jailbreaking or spending any money. As noted by iFans forum member TempzZ, there is an accessibility option called AssistiveTouch that is bundled within iOS 5 or later. To enable the feature, navigate to Settings > General > Accessibility > AssistiveTouch.

When enabled, AssistiveTouch places a circular object on your home and lock screens that, once tapped, pop open a window with a number of different shortcuts for the home button, screen rotation, volume toggles, multitasking bar, screenshots and more. The circle dims away into the background when it’s not in use, and you might even find it convenient enough to use even if your tactile buttons are still functional on your iOS device.

Do you use AssistiveTouch? Is there an alternative that you use?

Apple Seeds iOS 6.1.3 Beta 2 to Developers

icono-ipswApple is on a roll as of late when it comes to releasing iOS software updates, as the Cupertino-based corporation has already seeded iOS 6.1.3 beta 2 to developers for testing. iOS 6.1 was released just three weeks ago, which prompted the release of the evasi0n untethered jailbreak. Subsequently, iOS 6.1.1 was released exclusively for the iPhone 4S as a fix for 3G issues. Most recently, iOS 6.1.2 was outed to resolve Microsoft Exchange calendar issues.

The first beta of this software was actually labeled as iOS 6.1.1, released earlier this month, but Apple has changed the version to keep with numerical order. iOS 6.1.3 will include enhancements to the Maps application for Japan, along with a fix for a lock screen security issue that allows users to bypass an iPhone’s passcode. The update may also fix the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak, although that remains to be seen. Developers can grab the update from the Dev Center.

Apple on Tuesday seeded the iOS 6.1.2 software update to all compatible iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models, fixing an important Microsoft Exchange calendar bug for enterprise users. The new version is available for download in iTunes or as an over-the-air software update. iOS hacker MuscleNerd quickly tweeted that jailbroken users should avoid updating to iOS 6.1.2, per usual, until jailbreak developers have a chance to determine the jailbreak compatibility of the latest software version. How to Enable Native HDR on iOS 6 Devices

HDR iPad

If you have taken advantage of the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, one of the benefits is the ability to enable native HDR mode on those devices. When using HDR, short for “high dynamic range,” the device’s camera will take three photos, and automatically merge them together into one image with the best lighting and exposure conditions possible.

iFans forum member Tkf1 has posted detailed step-by-step instructions on how to enable native HDR on iOS 6 devices, namely the iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPad mini and fourth-generation iPod touch. The tutorial is technical, involving the modification of certain strings within the iOS filesystem, but is rather straightforward and should be easy to understand for most users. Do post any questions in the thread if you encounter any difficulties or want something clarified.
