Upcoming Theme Releases

The theme section has been fairly active over the last few weeks with some nice theme previews. Some are just starting, and some are nearing release. This article will give some exposure to some of those themes. If there’s more activity in that section, maybe we can make this a regular thing.

This Edition – WIPs

Some themes come a long way before getting released and some are just amazing from the start, this edition will show some of those.

1. Glacier by iMicky

A theme first previewed about three weeks ago, Glacier lives up to it’s name. It features soothing colors along with some nice simplicity, mixed with a little detail. Glacier is looking to be a very pretty theme upon release.

The thread can be found here.

Some comments

This is more than sexy. This is the world’s millenium (typo intended).

All i can say is amazing. I love this theme and can’t wait for it to be released. I have looked at your other themes as well (Pure etc) and I think you are very talented. Keep up the good work!

I love this.

How to fix MMS and Facetime issues post-jailbreak

Click for Full Sized image!

So MMS and Facetime may have broken for you after the jailbreak (it did for me) – although I’m confident that a fix is on the way, there’s a quicker way for the impatient among you. (Thanks to @_Appman_)

Go into Cydia, go to Manage > Sources > Edit > Add and type: http://iphonedelivery.advinux.fr/cydia

Next, download “iPhone Delivery” package from that source. Respring when prompted and check your Messages app. MMS should be back. Next, go to Settings > Phone and turn Facetime to “ON” and wait for activation.

I now have MMS and Facetime back on my jailbroken iPhone 4. Hope it works for you. Thanks again to @_AppMan_ for the tip.

EDIT: Actually there’s an automatic update now in place thanks to Saurik and Comex. Simply open up Cydia after you’ve jailbroken and install the mandatory update! Done. Easy..

Speech Recognition – Future or Flawed?

Speech Recognition has been suggested to be the next “future technology” – The one which will make the most improvements in 2011, the thing everyone will be ranting and raving about (apart from iPad 2.0 and iPhone 5, of course..) – But I wanted to see how close we were right now…

Converting videos for your iPad and iPhone 4

Big, beautiful screens with high resolution – great for watching videos… but how do you get the “optimum” settings for your video files to play nicely with your iDevice?

Firstly, head over to http://handbrake.fr to download a copy of Handbrake for your computer (it’s universal binary) then, watch this video below which I’ve made to tell you about the presets I’ve written for the programme, which allow you to convert in HD, half-HD and SD:

You can also download the files you need here:

Mac/Windows presets

Just Windows: (read the video description for more info on what to do!)

To import the presets (which I forget to explain in the video…) go to “Presets” on the menu bar, and then “Import…”

Apple admits there are signal problems – Fix is “on the way”

But it’s not what we think… Apparently, the reason users are seeing lower signal bars when they grip their iPhones (especially in the bottom left corner) is because there were never any “high” signal bars in the area in the first place. Any high reception was false, and infact, people were in a low reception area but gripping the phone showed the ‘true’ bars. Here’s how Apple explain it:

“Users observing a drop of several bars when they grip their iPhone in a certain way are most likely in an area with very weak signal strength, but they don’t know it because we are erroneously displaying 4 or 5 bars. Their big drop in bars is because their high bars were never real in the first place.”

Read the full press release after the break – It looks like a software update is coming to fix the problem… but the hardware problem will remain.

Proporta Leather Style Case for iPad

We’ve not had many iPad accessory reviews on the front page.. And I’ve been trying my hardest to get companies to send Multi Touch Fans a few to review… but I’ve had no luck. Fortunately, Proporta sent me their newest addition to the iPad lineup, dubbed “Leather Style Case.” (more…)

Why you SHOULD get MobileMe.

A question that many new iDevice users ask themselves from when they first connect their new toy: Should I get MobileMe? When you first connect a new device to iTunes, it asks if you want to buy a year’s subscription, or try a 30 day trial. Problem is… not many people know the benefits of MobileMe – but I do. So read on to find out if you should be subscribed to Apple’s premium Cloud Service.

iPhone 4 Cases – What’s available at the moment?

I haven’t had any review units in (case companies… if you’re reading this…) but I have done my research into iPhone 4 cases. You don’t want to ruin the sleek design of your iPhone by covering up… but you don’t want to ruin the sleek design by dropping it either. So you’re caught in a catch 22…

So what actually IS available? This video demonstrates 5 potential cases you could buy for your new iPhone. Watch it after the break (more…)
