Want to run Android on your coffee table? That’ll cost you just under $7000

Screen Shot 2014-02-20 at 11.48.01 PMAndroid has been implemented on hundreds of different devices over the years, but perhaps none cooler than the all-new Platform 32 and Platform 46 multitouch coffee tables.

The 32-inch and 46-inch coffee tables were designed and engineered by household product maker Ideum in partnership with 3M, who provides the high-performance multitouch displays…

Both tables are advertising as having smooth, responsive and bezel-free screens, alongside Bluetooth, HDMI, Wi-Fi and USB 2.0. An integrated quad-core Intel i7 processor and 16 GB RAM can be found inside, and the tables have anti-theft rugged aluminum bases. Windows 8 is the current operating system used on the devices, but the Android version demonstrated in the video below will be available later this year.

With a price tag of $6950 and beyond, purchasing a multitouch coffee table for your dining room might not be the most practical solution. But having Android at your fingertips in this fashion is certainly interesting and highly convenient, so it will be interesting to see how successful Ideum and 3M can be with this initiative.

What do you think of an Android-powered coffee table?
