New Apple TV reference models have been found in builds of iOS 7, meaning that the development of the device is likely well underway. The references first appeared in iOS 7 when it was released back in September, according to 9to5mac.
The updated build is named “AppleTV4,1″, meaning that the device will likely be a large jump over the past Apple TV models, which were all incremental updates of the “AppleTV2,1″ that launched back in 2010.
The presence of this device string can be taken as a confirmation that the device is being developed within Apple. 9to5mac also reported earlier this year that an updated Apple TV was expected to launch during the first half of 2014. Most expect it to include an updated UI, as well as an App Store that allows developers to offer games and other apps for the platform. The internals are also expected to be a large jump over the A5-based predecessor.
