Well this is crazy. Apple’s iconic 5th avenue glass “cube” retail store, which is made up of 15 humongous glass panels, seemingly stayed open last night following some severe damage to one of these glass panels. According to a report from 9to5Mac, the panel suffered injury thanks to a snowblower that accidentally knocked into it.
The 15 panels were installed a couple of years ago to replace the 90 that were in place before them, a job that reportedly cost Apple $6.7 million. A bit of quick math places the value of the one that was shattered last night at right around $446,667. That’s a pretty penny. It’s not yet clear when Apple will be replacing the glass, but I’m pretty sure the Cupertino corporation has the large, invaluable, seamless glass equivalent of AppleCare+ and the problem will be resolved shortly.
