According to Cisco’s annual security report, 99% of malware targeted at mobile devices is of the Android variety. Most typical Android users shan’t be worried, however, as the report also makes clear that the mobile variation (across all mobile platforms) of web-delivered malware only accounts for 1.2% of all web malware encounters during the entire year of 2013. That said, the report also says that Android users account for 71% of all web-delivered malware encounters, while iPhone users accounted for 14% of the same. According to Cisco, these encounters can include “phishing, likejacking, or other social engineering ruses, or forcible redirects to websites other than expected.” So be careful out there, friends, no matter which platform you’re more loyal to. But if you’re sporting an Android device, it might be a good idea to keep these statistics in the back of your mind.
