With all of the same, flat-looking iOS 7 themes being released lately, this is a nice change of pace. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen an 8-bit iOS theme, but it’s the first we’ve seen that takes Apple’s iOS 7 icons and gives them an 80′s makeover.
The stock icons on iOS versions prior to iOS 7 would have been hard to replicate in an 8-bit fashion while still maintaining their original look, but since the iOS 7 icons are so simple, the bit theme does a great job of reproducing them.
Here’s what the theme’s developer had to say on Reddit:
Hi all! I’m rZ (or r4wrz, or Carlos… y’know), and I’m the creator of the bit theme. Last year in May I posted a sample of some 8-bit icons to /r/jailbreak (I didn’t know that this was a subreddit that existed, woops), and it garnered a lot of attention, so I decided I’d make it a full theme. Fast-forward to today, and I’m close to getting a public beta out the door. If you’re interested in entering the ‘private’ beta, contact me on Twitter @carlosaarzee. I’ll be answering questions here in the comments for as long as possible. (You could probably find this thread sometime in March and ask a question and I’d hopefully answer it. )
The creator of the bit theme says he’s close to getting a private beta out, and says to contact him on Twitter @carlosaarzee if you would be interested in testing it out. If you manage to get your hands on a beta version of the bit theme, be sure to share some screenshots and thoughts in the comments so that we can see what the icons look like in the context of the rest of the OS and better understand what the theme will look like once it’s released.
Otherwise, keep your eyes on iFans as we’ll be sure to let you know when the bit theme is publicly available.
