The OtterBox Defender Series for iPhone 3G (and 3GS) offers stylish and sophisticated protection in 3 layers. First, a thin, clear membrane covers your Touch Screen to help prevent scratches and dust appearing on the screen. Second is a hard and strong Polycarbonate skeleton which surrounds your device completely. And wrapped around all of this is a Silicone skin that absorbs bumps and shock if dropped or knocked. You also get a ClipStand holster which you can attached to your jeans or a belt and securely walk around with your phone protected at all times. Watch my video review an unboxing and brief look at the case.
The protection that the case offers is substantial. If you’re very self conscious at dropping your phone (or clumsy), then you’ll definitely want to consider something with this sort of protection. The screen protecter (layer 1), polycarbonate casing (layer 2) and silicone outer coating (layer 3) all come together to form, in all, a nice case.
It feels weighted in your hand and there’s not a single opening in the whole ensemble (unless you need there to be, in which case just flick open one of the port protectors!) The website even claims that to some degree, this will make your phone water resistant.
The downsides which I don’t mention in the video, are the sheer bulk of the case. Sure, you’re protecting your phone, but at the same time, you’re loosing style points by carrying around a thick phone. Also, the built-in screen protector will sometimes stick to your phone’s screen, causing suction marks, which don’t cause any problems, but might impair visibility on the screen.
The pros far outweigh the cons, and I wholly recommend this case to anyone who’s not afraid of protection!
The price of the case is $49.95 (USD) and £26.99 (GBP) and the relevant links are below.
