Apple on Tuesday introduced an all-new iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display, while retaining the original iPad mini and less-expensive iPad 2. The new tablet lineup now consists of the following devices. Do not expect any further iPad product refreshes through at least the end of the holiday shopping season.

  • iPad Air ($499): The all-new tablet is 20% thinner than the previous generation and features the smaller bezels of the iPad mini. This model is also significantly lighter than the previous generation, weighing in at just one pound. Other hardware specifications include the Apple A7 chip with 64-bit architecture, M7 chip, 10 hours battery life, improved iSight camera and more. Available in silver and white and space grey and black.
  • iPad mini with Retina display ($399): The tablet has a 7.9-inch display with 2048 x 1536 pixels resolution, Apple A7 chip with 64-bit architecture, up to 10 hours of battery life, a 5-megapixel rear-facing iSight camera, and more. Available in silver and white and space grey and black. Available later in November.
  • iPad mini ($299): The non-Retina model has been retained in the lineup with an all-new $299 price. That is a $30 discount over the original $329 price tag.
  • iPad 2 ($399): The budget full-size iPad 2 has also been retained in the lineup, at the same $399 price point.
