Is it too late for BlackBerry Messenger on iOS and Android?

blackberry-iconBlackBerry Messenger is launching on iOS and Android before the end of the summer, and the company is now sending beta invites to certain people through its Beta Zone program.

But a large majority of smartphone users now have iPhones or Android devices with iMessage or Google Hangouts, and then there are apps like WhatsApp, Viber and Kik Messenger.

The number of messaging services available nowadays is substantially higher than when BlackBerry reigned, so does BBM still have a chance to thrive on iOS and Android? Or, is it too late?
